  1. Australia Awards Scholarships

Australia Awards is the foundation of the Government for Australia’s development assistance program for Africa. It provides access to postgraduate education, training, and professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Africans from eligible countries.

The aim is to create education links and promote knowledge through Australia’s extensive scholarship programs. The program brings together scholarships offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

On their return to the workplace, Australia Awards Alumni from Nigeria are expected to contribute actively to development in their home countries. The level of study for this scholarship is a Master’s degree.

Qualified candidates from Nigeria’s public, private and civil society sectors have the opportunity to apply for Australia Awards Scholarships (Masters-level study at an Australian University) and Australia Awards Africa Fellowships (professional development short courses in specialized fields delivered in both Africa

The Australia Awards Scholarships are a cornerstone of Australia’s development assistance to Africa. The initiative provides access to postgraduate education, training and professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Africans from eligible countries, including Nigeria and Cameroon.

Entitlements include the following:

  • The full costs of tuition fees for up to two years
  • An economy class flight to and from Australia. Excluding excess baggage and travel insurance charges.
  • An approximate annual stipend of AUD30,000 to cover living expenses while in Australia
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), covers basic medical costs
  • A once-off Establishment Allowance of AUD5,000 to assist with the costs of starting life in Australia and commencing the course
  • Scholars, whose families remain in their home country, may be entitled to a reunion airfare allowing them to travel home, midway through the course. This is only available to scholars whose course is for two years or longer.

2. The Destination Australia Program (DAP)

This is a new mobility program for domestic and international students from Nigeria to study in regional Australia. Over 1000 scholarships will be available each year to support all students studying at regional campus locations in qualifications from a certificate IV level and above.
