Bauchi International Airport is also called Sir Tafawa Balewa International Airport. It is located at Sam Njoma Road, Off Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi. The state ex-governor, Isa Yaguda, built the airport in 2014. It serves Bauchi, the capital city of Bauchi state. The airport also serves the neighbouring cities. Because of the rich soil in this area, the main occupation in the state is farming. Indigenes of this state cultivate food crops such as sorghum, and millet. Cash crops such as groundnut and cotton are also produced here. Bauchi city is a major commercial hub in Bauchi.

Bauchi International Airport is named after Sir Tafawa Balewa, former prime minister of Nigeria (1957-1966). This was done in recognition of his contributions to the development of the state. The airport was built to replace the Bauchi airstrip in Azare town in Bauchi state.
