Things to do in Ogbunike Cave

Ogbunike Cave is located in Anambra State, to be précised in a place called Oyi. It is a marvelous sight to behold and currently, it is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. What this means is that this cave is not just an ordinary cave that you can come. What are the things that you think you can do in this part of the world? Ogbunike Cave stands out because of its structure and history. It was said that people come to this cave as refugee from policemen who were trying to hunt down slaves that they would kidnap. The cave has about 15 tunnels that lead to different places. We may end up saying that this cave is a labyrinth. Water flows inside one of the caves and it is said that this water has spiritual power.

Celebrate the Ime Ogbe Festival

The Ime Ogbe Festival is a big festival that is celebrated annual in honour of the discovery of Ogbunike Cave. You would learn some caveats when you are here like taking off your shoes when you come to the entrance of this cave. Women who are having their monthly circles are not expected to come to this cave.

Climb the 317 Steps

Now, we got you! If you want to get to the most exciting part of the cave, you must climb these steps and if you are not able to do so, you can just walk around the cave before leaving. This does not mean that you are not going to have fun when you do not climb these steps.

Drink Palm Wine

There are a lot of places where you can drink fresh palm wine around the cave. If you are hungry, there are still places where you can eat some indigenous foods.
