This funny travel story was submitted as part of the Funny Travel Stories competition on Hotels.ng. Read below and enjoy!

I was traveling from abuja to maiduguri in my black range rover SUV with tinted wind screens. Somewhere in yobe state I ran into a police check point. As I stepped on the brakes my reading glass case fell from the dashboard. As I bent to pick it I saw the policemen all scattering into the bush.

Fearing they had spotted boko haram coming, I pulled over and ran after them for protection. But the faster I ran after them, the faster they ran away from me. When I couldn’t catch up I started screaming for help. For all I knew boko haram was hot on my tails. When I shouted the police men stopped and looked at me with confusion on their faces.

They asked me why I was pursuing them. I said I saw them running and thought they saw boko haram. Then the revealed why they had ran away: clearly when I bent to pick my glass case they thought I was bending to pick up a gun. Turning back now I saw a crowd of other motorists behind me. On the road was a long queue of abandoned vehicles. Everyone had joined the police and I in fleeing from “boko haram”. All because I bent to pick my glass case. SMH for naija police.
