10 Tourist Destinations in Eastern Nigeria

There is no way you can ignore the eastern Nigeria when you want to see some of the finest tourist destinations in the country. There are 10 places that you may want to visit in the east. These places would help you unwind. Meanwhile, you can check in at any of the hotels in Awka which is more central in Eastern Nigeria.

Ibeno Beach

Ibeno Beach is one of the loveliest beaches in Nigeria. It is in Akwa Ibom State you would find the beach that stretches from James town all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Picnickers are always coming here to explore the area. The white beach sands are soft to step upon and the Ibeno Soccer Tournament is held here.

Ogbunike Cave

The intimidating Ogbunike Cave is listed as a UNESCO Heritage Site and is located in a place called Oyi in Anambra State. You need to climb the 317 steps to reach the inner caves. A tourist guide is expected to help you through this adventure. Ogbunike Cave is close to some of the hotels in Awka.

National War Museum

It is in Umuahia that the government has established the National War Museum which has three sectional galleries. You would find the Traditional Warfare Gallery, the Civil War Gallery and the Armed Forces Gallery. There are war artifacts like the armoured vehicles, Ojukwu bucket, Ogbunigwe and rocket launchers.

Tinapa Free Zone and Resort

Chief Nana’s Palace

Maybe, you do not know who Chief Nana Olomu Ebrohimi was. In the 19th century, he was a prosperous man who had traded with the European companies and had contact with the Queen Elizabeth II. He was so influential that when he died, this monument was erected for his memory. This place is in Benin.

Okomu Wildlife Sanctuary

The Okomu Wildlife Sanctuary in Benin is the country’s second largest forest reserve and has a lot of animals like the buffalo, elephants, bushbaby,chimpanzees, porcupines, duikers,the putty nosed guenon, horn bills, red river hog, mona monkey ,white-throated monkey among others.

Slave Masters Lodge

Okopedi, Itu in Akwa Ibom may be a silent small town but it has some captivating tourist spots that you may want to see like the Slave Masters Lodge. The Itu River is where this lodge is located and there is the detection centers too to put the slaves that would be moved out.

Oban Hills

Isaac Boro died during the Civil war. He was a hero who cannot be forgotten which was the reason this park has been established for him in the city of Port Harcourt.
