How Lynda Got Her Code Groove

[caption id="attachment_767" align="alignleft" width="370"]1yu1mxV7CXkT7yWmn8JatldriG5FROa54FZ6hLdzJmE Lynda Chiwetelu[/caption] Determined and a can-do attitude, Lynda Chiwetelu is a programmer at Hotelsng. Her love for programming started like every curious person “I just want to be able to do that” and she did so. Lynda saw a car sales site designed by a course mate after one of her Java tutorials in school, and was interested in knowing how to get a functional website and he explained that all she needed to do was code, not only was she impressed, she became more determined. “I had to learn how to code, I just had to do it but I had to focus and not have any distractions that couldn’t happen with the current light situation, so I reached to my dad for financial help so as to get the book I needed and fuel to power the generator and he obliged.” Lynda became good at what she loved and obsessed with the idea of being able to develop an efficient web application after spending several hours on her laptop. She then got her break when the CEO of Hotelsng, Mark Essien tweeted about hiring a programmer for the company, Lynda was alerted by a friend and she sent Mark an email “He told me to just code something, I did it and I got the job.” She got the job but was working remotely in Niger state, Lynda spoke about the difficulties of working remotely, “Well, everyone would go about their daily business and I was at home coding, so while I was home doing office work, I was also doing house work till the day I was coding and my family got back and I hadn’t done my chores. The rush in trying to get things in order, my laptop screen broke, that’s when I realized I had to move to Lagos to work closer with the team and not be distracted.” When asked about her experience so far, Lynda said it has been a good journey regardless of the hurdles along the way, although funny when outsiders ask what she does after the website has been developed “People don’t see the reason why as a programmer I need to be at work all the time, thinking after the development of the website nothing needs to be done, but there’s so much like maintaining, optimization and adding new features”
